                          Client Support Worker

Background

Victim Services of S.D.G. & A. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to individuals who have been victimized as a result of a crime or tragic circumstance. Our agency works in partnership with police as well as emergency responders and other community-based services to ensure victims receive the help they need to assist them in the development of their personal path to wellness.

The organization is in search of a Client Support Worker who will report to the Client Support Coordinator and is responsible for providing assistance to victims of crime and tragedy.  The Client Support worker will provide assistance to clients accessing the Victim Quick Response Program as well as the MTS (Mobile Tracking System) Program.

This is a full-time bilingual position at 35 hours per week with flexible work hours which will include some evenings, weekends and on-call hours. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Client and Service Delivery/Program Support:

 

  • Adhere and complies with agency Policies and Procedures, ensures Ministry program guidelines and service/program eligibility criteria is met and any changes are followed
  • Conduct needs assessment, intakes with clients, answer questions, assess VQRP+ eligibility and open a file if deemed eligible, providing, and maintaining client files based on sound case management support and established processes
  • Enter client files into database and record all services provided
  • Provide services and assistance to victims accessing the Victims Quick Response Program and Mobile Tracking System (MTS) Program
  • Ensure a response to calls from Police and other agencies requesting services
  • Ensure on scene assistance to volunteers in difficult or large-scale emergency situations by personally attending the scene
  • Meet with clients on scene as needed
  • Provide on-call and back up on-call support; assume Team Leader responsibilities during weekday office hours and weekend/weeknights as needed; carry pager/cell phone as required
  • Discuss clients’ safety needs and complete safety plans as required
  • Performs, schedules and monitors home/business security audits
  • Develops and maintains tracking sheets for home security assisted victims from the Cornwall Community Police, the OPP, as well as the Akwesasne Mohawk Police
  • Assist with recruitment initiatives and screening of volunteer team members as required
  • Assist in the maintenance of the 24-hour volunteer schedule, as well as monthly volunteer meetings as required

Community Involvement and Outreach:

  • Respond to a variety of telephone inquiries from community agencies and services, emergency services and the public; provide information regarding the nature of Victim Services of S.D.G. & A. and explain the role of volunteers as well as how to apply to become a volunteer
  • Liaise with community agencies to provide information about Victim Services and its programs/services
  • Attend and represent Victim Services at public events
  • Travel to the counties and liaise with community agencies to aid in volunteer recruitment and public education

Program Evaluation and Improvement:

  • Collect and incorporate information gathered through the evaluation process to ensure effective program and service delivery
  • Contribute and participate in Team meetings with an aim of improving service and program provision, Team efficiencies and cohesiveness.

Administrative/Office Support:

  • Ensure that policies and procedures are followed and contribute to efficiencies of the program and of the team.
  • Ensure that all required statistical information is collected and documented as per established mechanisms, policies, and

procedures.

  • Take messages for the Executive Director and all other staff members; maintain knowledge of their schedule and whereabouts and contact when out of the office if urgent situation arises
  • Complete administrative tasks such as answering telephone, typing and filing correspondence, operating office equipment and computer as required.

The Ideal Candidate Would Possess:

 

  • A degree/diploma in the Social or Human Services field
  • Minimum two (2) years experience working in the social or human services field and/or issues affecting victims
  • Crisis intervention experience/education an asset
  • Obtain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Background Check
  • Swear or affirm an Oath of Confidentiality
  • A valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain good working relationships with police services and community members
  • The ability to maintain strict confidentiality around all issues regarding calls for service to victims, information shared in volunteer training/debriefing and information about the organization, volunteers, and staff members
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Conscientious in completing all necessary documentation with attention to detail
  • Willingness to work flexible hours/on-call hours and travel throughout the counties
  • Excellent computer knowledge (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet); ability to design/work with spreadsheets
  • Bilingual (written, spoken) in both English and French.

 

Annual Full Time Salary Range Based on Experience and Qualifications:  $37,310 - $42,224

After Hours On-Call Crisis Response - Victim Service SDG&A

Team Leader

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Crisis Response Coordinator, the After Hours On-Call Crisis Response Team Leader role involves responding to calls received outside of regular business hours from Police and Emergency Services who request immediate crisis assistance. The After Hours On-Call Crisis Response Team Leader will coordinate and dispatch a Team consisting of two (2) trained Volunteer Crisis Responders to offer support and guidance to victims of crime and/or tragic circumstances. The interested candidate must be willing to attend crisis calls in person as needed within S.D.G. & A.

Hours of Work:

  • Weekday coverage beginning at 5:00pm through to 7:00am Monday to
  •  Friday
  • Weekend coverage beginning on Friday at 5:00pm through to 7:00am the following Monday Morning
  • Statutory holidays from 7:00am to 7:00am the following workday
  • Coverage is on a rotational basis, every second week 

Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in the Human Services field
  • Experience in performing victim services and/or crisis response work
  • Completion of the Victim Services Crisis Responder and Team Leader training
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Energetic individual who possesses the ability to deal with high stress and crisis incidents

in a calm and comforting manner

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain good working relationships with police, volunteers, staff and other social services providers
  • Excellent decision making, organizational and communication skills
  • Conscientious in completing in detail all necessary documentation
  • Ability to provide non-judgmental, sensitive, emotionally safe services related to volunteers and victims
  • High level of commitment and responsibility
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle; willingness to travel within the catchment area (Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry and Akwesane)
  • Must be fluently bilingual, written and spoken (French and English)
